Both White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) used Twitter on Tuesday to mourn the loss of Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.), who died after a long bout with cancer.

Gibbs, tweeting, linked to a statement from President Obama and the first lady that noted Elizabeth Edwards's "fortitude and grace" amid experiences of "tragedy and pain."

Palin, meanwhile, wished for "comfort" for the Edwards children, who are 28, 12 and 10.

"Very sorry for Elizabeth Edward's [sic] family ... God bless her fam! ily & loved ones," Palin said.

So far, no other GOP figures have followed suit.
