President Obama took time on Wednesday to toast members of his staff who helped shepherd the New START treaty to ratification in the Senate.

The president raised a glass to celebrate the successful Senate vote Wednesday afternoon, which handed him a major victory in the lame-duck Congress and delivered on one of his top foreign policy initiatives. 

The Senate successfully ratified the treaty in a 71-26 vote after 13 Republicans supported the nuclear arms agreement with Russia.

The White House released a photo on Thursday showing Obama with members of staff holding flutes of champagne in the Oval Office.
