In phone calls to the leaders of Turkey and Mexico, President Obama on Saturday expressed regret for the action of WikiLeaks.

Obama, in calls to Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said "expressed his regrets for the deplorable action by WikiLeaks," according to a readout provided by the White House.

In both calls, the White House said the president and his foreign counterparts "agreed [Wikileaks'] irresponsible acts should not distract our two countries from our important cooperation."

The U.S. has not confirmed if the embarrassing revelations of leaked diplomatic cables are accurate, and the White House on Saturday would not say if Obama apologized or if he made the calls specifically to address the leaks.

"He regrets the action by WikiLeaks," a senior administration official said in an email.

The president also congratulated Calderon on what he viewed as the success of the the UN Climate Summit in Cancun.

"President Obama congratulated President Calderon for his leadership and Mexico's excellent work chairing the Cancun conference to a successful conclusion that builds on the historic Copenhagen Accord and advances the effort to address the challenge of climate change," the White House said in a statement.
