postheadericon McCain laments WaPo columnist departure

Noted sports fan John McCain (R-Ariz.) took to Twitter Wednesday to talk up former Washington Post sports columnist Michael Wilbon.

"I will miss Michael Wilbon's column in the @washingtonpost - but I will continue to enjoy watching him on [ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption"]," McCain tweeted.

Wilbon started at the Post in 1980 and described his new career move in a recent radio interview.

"It was a pretty traumatic day for me on Wednesday, I guess, to tell Don Graham," Wilbon said. "Look, I'm 52 years old and I worked at the Washington Post for 31-and-a-half years. People can do the math. It's a greater part of my identity than anything else in my life, and that's including my wife and child, because they're relatively new to the scene."

He will now work fulltime at ESPN. His final column for the Post is here.
