Like many other political tweeters, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich took to his feed Tuesday to mark the 69th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Unlike the others, however, Gingrich bypassed the traditional thanks and reflections and instead chose to plug his books on the subject.

"The 69th anniversary of the japanese attack is a good time to remind folks of our novels pearl harbor and days of infamy," he said.

Gingrich later deleted the tweet, which had become the butt of jokes on a few blogs.

The two books were released in 2007 and 2008 and provide alternate accounts of events in the Pacific during WWII.
