postheadericon Gibbs, lawmakers cheer repeal of military's gay ban

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and members of Congress took to Twitter Wednesday to cheer on President Obama's signing of a law repealing the military's ban on openly gay service members.

As the president made the bill into law at a raucous Interior Department signing ceremony, Gibbs wrote on his Twitter account:

What a moment...

We are not a nation that says don't ask don't tell. We're a nation that says out of many we are one.

Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), who attended the ceremony, recapped some of the most poignant moments to her:

Very happy and rowdy crowd cheering the President,  a lot of happy military in this room. a lot of tears too.

Admiral Mike Mullen received 2 long standing ovations, he did a great job.

In addi! tion to congressional leaders who attended the ceremony like N! ancy Pel osi (D-Calif.), Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.),  Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) tweeted that they were there to witness the signing.
