postheadericon Gibbs jokes about mock tax-deal endorsements

Twitter, 10; White House message, 0.

In an effort to showcase support for President Obama's tax-deal compromise, the White House press office sent out a series of releases on Wednesday naming political leaders who back the plan. Those leaders included the mayor of Charlotte, N.C. and Democratic Rep. Gary Peters (Mich.), among others.

On Twitter, D.C. journalists seized on the low-proof list and joked about what other obscure and fictional characters the White House might trot out next.

Soon after, Gibbs logged onto his own account to weigh in.

"Thanks to @jaketapper and @daveweigel for tracking down the endorsements of famed glass-blower and Thai food delivery guy - stay tuned," he said.

"My apologizes - shout out should go to @brianbeutler too - Mayor Quimby is coming! ... President Josiah Bartlet release is all ready to go...just waiting to hit send!" he tweeted later.

So far, there have been no other releases from the press office.
