Fourteen lawmakers voted to essentially pack up shop for the rest of the year on Thursday.

Seven members from both parties voted for a motion to adjourn offered by Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) in the House before the chamber begins a debate in earnest on President Obama's tax-cut deal with Republicans.

Taylor is opposed to the legislation, set for debate this afternoon. It's not clear whether the 13 other lawmakers who joined with him in the vote agree.

One Democrat voted present.
