Depending who you ask, either Benjamin Franklin or Albert Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. 

Although this certainly overstates the definition, this colloquial formulation serves as a lesson to incoming freshman legislators as they embark to serve the public and confront a myriad of rules and regulations that will govern nearly every aspect of their lives.  Although the amount of new obligations can be overwhelming, new members can take comfort in the fact that while they are the largest group to undertake this challenge in the modern era, they are not the first.  And because they are not the first, they can hopefully learn from, and not repeat, the mistakes made by those who have gone before them.
