Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) on Thursday announced his bid to lead the Republican Policy Committee, setting up a showdown with Rep. Tom Price (Ga.).

“My vision for the Republican Policy Committee is simple. The RPC must become the cultivator of conservative ideas,” Mack, who was just elected to his fourth term, wrote in a letter to colleagues.

Mack said he would work to make the new Congress the “repeal Congress” as the GOP seeks to roll back the legislative agenda enacted by President Obama and the Democratic majority.

He could have an uphill battle against Price, who served as chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee and carries the backing of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the likely incoming chairman of the House Budget Committee.
