Monday's start of the lame-duck session prompted many political tweeters to share their thoughts on the political environment leading up to January's transition.

Rep. Thad McCotter (R-Mich.) said:

It's Michigan's opening day of deer season; Washington's opening day of lame duck season. Everybody be safe.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said:

Back in DC. So much we need to get done, hopeful that compromise will not be an evil word.

Former House Speake! r Newt Gingrich (R) said, in two tweets:

It is sadlt clear from his remarks at andrews that president obama has not come to grips with the 2010 election results-- ... The president at andrews is still trying to maneuver the republicans and set up a lame duck session on his terms--wont happen
