Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), the third-ranking Republican in the House, used Twitter on Monday night to promote his recent writings on his trip to Afghanistan.

Linking to blog entries and photos, Pence sought to emphasize his experiences meeting with Hoosier troops and his conclusion that America's commitment in the region must be "long-term."

"After a few early missteps (most notably the announced July 2011 date for withdrawal)," he wrote in one blog entry, "it appears that the Administration is on the right track in Afghanistan. If we can reassure our Afghan partners that our commitment to their success is long-term, and if we will give our brave soldiers who serve in this battlefield the resources they need, I know that together we will prevail in this ancient land."
