postheadericon Obama to lunch with next D.C. mayor

President Obama will host Washington, D.C. Mayor-elect Vincent Gray (D), who was officially elected to the post on Tuesday.

Gray said at his inaugural press conference as mayor-elect that the two will meet on Dec. 1, according to The Washington Post.

Gray, the city council chairman, defeated incumbent Mayor Adrian Fenty (D) in a hotly contested primary in September.

Obama and Gray aren't necessarily strangers: the two met at a Washington Mystics basketball game in August.

Fenty hoped for an endorsement from Obama to help him edge out Gray, but none came despite the fact that Fenty endorsed Obama in the 2008 presidential campaign.

At least one member of the Obama administration voted for Gray: U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
