Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocates will be working in a new federal landscape come the next Congress after Republicans regained control of the U.S. House and Democrats retained a majority in the Senate.

The shift in the balance of power will very likely slow advancement of any legislation in Congress, including LGBT rights legislation. Does this mean a blockade on LGBT rights? Not if we can help it. Fact is, our community has always had to fight â€" and fight hard â€" for equality. This is nothing new to us.
