postheadericon The irony of the Tea Party victory: More âinsiderâ influence

“We’ve come to take our government back.”  Those were some of Senator-elect Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) first words when he gave his victory speech after winning election to the Senate on Nov. 2.  He raised nearly $7 million and combined with the other $6.4 million that outside groups and the Republican Party spent on his campaign, the cost of his victory exceeded $13 million.  The list of his supporters is long, ranging from Club for Growth, to the American Bankers Association, to the Marathon Oil company, to the National Right to Life organization. Jack Conway, his Democratic opponent, had a long list too, including Democratic stalwarts like Moveon.org and the National Education Association (NEA).
