postheadericon In Korea, Illinois Republican thinking about LOST, FTAs

Even when he's abroad working on trade deals, Congressman Peter Roskam still can't stop thinking about LOST.

"In korea keeping an eye out for Jin and Sun. They might have cleared out of Seoul and headed to the Island to avoid the G20," the Illinois Republican tweeted Monday.

Roskam is in Korea this week to help shepherd the long-stalled U.S. South Korea Free Trade Agreement to completion. The compact â€" also the focus of a bipartisan working group Roskam helped to launch in June â€" is expected to benefit from momentum from the Group of 20 summit which begins in Seoul on Thursday.

"There is great political momentum in both the U.S. and Korea right now," Roskam said in a recent statement. "It is creating a moment of opportunity to finalize remaining issues and adopt an FTA that will boost both our nation’s economies for years to come."

"If a mutual agreement is not reach! ed before the start of the G-20 summit," he added, "I am afraid the trade accord may languish indefinitely."

Roskam uses the handle @PeterRoskam and has just under 4,500 followers.

He'll continue to document his trip on Twitter this week, according to staff.

Note: Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) is also in Korea this week. He tweeted yesterday that he's in Seoul meeting with "@DeptofDefense and @StateDept personnel and Korean officials."
