postheadericon Grassley: I'm a survivor

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) celebrated his survivor status on Saturday after having won election to his sixth term earlier this week.

Grassley noted that the Wall Street Journal had predicted that he would survive only one term in the Senate, among his colleagues who were also elected in 1980.

Grassley tweeted:

A writer 4 WStJornal predictd in 1982 that I wld be a 1Term Senator out of 18 of class of '80 Ha I'm sole survivor

The freshman senators who were produced by the 1980 election include: Jeremiah Denton (R-Ala.), Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska), Paula Hawkins (R-Fla.), Mack Mattingly (R-Ga.), Steve Symms (R-Idaho), Dan Quayle (R-Ind.), Warren Rudman (R-N.H.), John Porter East (R-N.C.), James Abdnor (R-S.D.), Slade Gorton (R-Wash.), and Bob Kasten (R-Wis.). ! Indeed, none of those other senators are still in the upper chamber.
