The swearing-in of Rep.-elect Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) was delayed on Tuesday due to his hospitalization for a blood clot in his lungs.

According to ABC affiliate WHAS, doctors at George Washington University Hospital ordered Reed to rest in bed on Tuesday while he recovers from a pulmonary embolism. He said he would likely be sworn-in within the next few days.

“I feel great and I am ready to get to work, but I am told that standard procedure in cases like this is bed rest as the medication does its jo! b.  While I am anxious to be released, I have to listen to the doctors," Reed said in a statement published by WHAS. "The people of the 29th District have been without representation in the House for more than eight months. We hope to take the oath as soon as possible. My hope is that this will happen in a day or two."

Reed was elected in a special election, and to a subsequent to a two-year term, to fill the seat of former Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.), who resigned in March after being accused of sexually harassing a male aide.

The 29th congressional district has been without representation since then.
