postheadericon DeMint: Yes to Senate Tea Party Caucus, but no to presidential bid

After easily winning reelection, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said he would readily join a Tea Party Caucus in the upper chamber if one was created.

“If there is one, I’ll join it,” said DeMint, who chairs the Senate Conservatives Fund, on CNN Tuesday night following his election results.

DeMint said Senate Republicans will expand the conservative caucus to reflect the Tea Party ideas. But the junior senator said Democrats will not align with the caucus because they are too tied to labor unions and special interest groups.

Rand Paul, Kentucky's GOP senator-elect, said Tuesday evening that creating such a caucus would be a top priority.

"That's one of the things I'll begin working on tomorrow morning," Paul said on CNN.

DeMint also told Wolf Blitzer he was not considering a run for his party’s presidential nomination in 2012.
