postheadericon Congress marks 210th year in the Capitol building

Capitol Hill saw another anniversary marked on Twitter Wednesday: Congress's first session in the Capitol building.

According the American History Museum, it was today in 1800 that Congress first convened in its current building. At the time, only the Senate wing had been finished, and the House had to wait an additional seven years to move to its side. Shortly after that, during the War of 1812, the building was partially burned, and underwent a subsequent reconstruction. Several other expansion projects continued throughout the 1800s.

The American History Museum tweeted about the anniversary here. See more on the history here.
