Democrats believe a sick economy needs stimulus from infrastructure and clean energy spending. Republicans believe it needs lower taxes and huge spending cuts. We are about to get neither. With the parties at ideological loggerheads, the Republicans controlling the House, and the Democrats still controlling the White House and Senate, each party can block the other’s agenda. The stage is set for two years of rhetorical warfare and blood-on-the-floor gridlock.
